It is a great pleasure and an honor to welcome you today on behalf of the Hellenic Parliament’s Special Permanent Committee on Research and Technology.

Your presence here symbolizes the strong friendship between Greece and Finland, two European nations that share not only democratic values but also a deep commitment to knowledge, innovation, and technological progress.

In recent years, Greece has made significant strides in fostering a vibrant innovation ecosystem.

We have invested in digital transformation, research infrastructures, and startup support, while creating national strategies that bring together universities, research centers, and the private sector.

Initiatives such as the “AI Factory Pharos,” the National Council for Research and Innovation, and regional innovation hubs demonstrate our country’s determination to become a regional leader in science and technology.

Finland, of course, stands as one of Europe’s most inspiring examples of how long-term vision and investment in education and innovation can transform a society.

Your country’s achievements in digital governance, sustainable technologies, and startup culture provide valuable lessons and motivation for all of us.

During my visit to SLUSH in Helsinki last year, I was deeply impressed by Finland’s innovative ecosystem and the opportunities it provides for startups in technology and innovation.

I firmly believe that our two Parliaments can and should deepen their collaboration in the field of research and innovation policy.

Parliamentary dialogue can play a key role in shaping frameworks that encourage scientific excellence, responsible technology, and cross-border partnerships.

Looking ahead, we are proud that in 2026 Greece will host the annual conference of the European Parliamentary Technology Assessment network (EPTA). We warmly invite our Finnish friends and colleagues to join us there, as we continue building a more innovative, sustainable, and inclusive Europe together.
